Baltimore police are currently looking into a shooting involving officers that took place at the intersection of Clifton Avenue and Hilton Street. This incident followed a high-speed pursuit of a vehicle that had been reported stolen in an overnight armed carjacking.
According to Police Commissioner Richard Worley, the department's Foxtrot air support unit identified the stolen vehicle around 1:25 a.m. on Sunday. Ground units were dispatched to the scene and began tracking the car. The vehicle eventually pulled over at approximately 1:41 a.m.
Worley detailed that as officers approached the car, the driver initially opened the door but quickly retreated back inside, locking the doors. Officers attempted to coax the driver out of the vehicle, but he refused to comply. One officer was preparing to break a window when another officer spotted a firearm inside the car, prompting him to call out a warning.
Within moments, shots were fired, and the driver was struck. Despite immediate medical assistance from the officers on the scene, the suspect was pronounced dead shortly after. A replica BB gun was later recovered from the vehicle.
The identity of the deceased suspect, described as an adult male, has not yet been released. Fortunately, no officers were injured during this incident. All officers involved have been placed on routine administrative leave as the investigation continues.
