Baltimore police are actively searching for a group of suspects involved in a violent assault on an elderly man outside a 7-Eleven gas station. The incident occurred in the Northern District of the city early on July 7, shortly before 4 a.m.
Surveillance footage from the location on Liberty Heights Avenue shows a group of six individuals, dressed in hooded sweatshirts, approaching the victim. The video reveals that the suspects repeatedly knocked the man to the ground and hurled various objects at him during the attack.
In a particularly alarming moment captured on video, one suspect appears to brandish what resembles an assault rifle, while another threatens the victim with a sword.
According to the Baltimore Police Department, the elderly man suffered minor bruising as a result of the assault. However, investigators have not confirmed whether the suspects are linked to any other crimes in the area.
This violent incident comes on the heels of a report from Mayor Brandon M. Scott's office, which highlighted a decrease in violent crime in Baltimore. The city has recorded 50 homicides so far this year, marking the lowest number of homicides for the first half of a calendar year, with a 23.1% decrease compared to the previous year.
As the investigation continues, Baltimore police have reached out to the community for assistance in identifying the suspects involved in this disturbing attack.
