The Bay District Volunteer Fire Department has officially taken delivery of a new Pierce Tractor Drawn Aerial, marking the end of a three-year wait for the crucial apparatus. The truck, designated as Truck 3, will be stationed at Lexington Park Station 3.
The contract for the new vehicle was signed in November 2022, with production commencing in November 2025. The 2026 Pierce Arrow XT Ascendant features advanced specifications, including a 67-inch cab, seating for seven in the main cab plus one in the tiller cab, and dimensions of 59 feet, 2 inches in length and 11 feet, 2 inches in height. It is powered by a Cummins X15 engine delivering 605 horsepower, coupled with an Allison EVS 4000 transmission.
Members of the Bay District Volunteer Fire Department dedicated significant time and effort over the years to ensure that every detail of the truck met the needs of the community it serves.
This new unit is particularly meaningful in light of recent tragedies affecting the fire service community. In January 2022, Baltimore City Fire Department lost three members in a tragic incident, prompting an unprecedented response from fire crews across the East Coast. Bay District's Truck 3 was among the units that provided coverage during that difficult time.
In March 2023, Truck 3 was sold to Baltimore City Fire Department and was quickly put into service. Just months later, the community mourned the loss of Firefighter Brice Trossbach, whose dedication to the fire service left a lasting impact. The new Truck 3 includes tributes to Trossbach, honoring his legacy.
The Bay District Volunteer Fire Department looks forward to the new truck serving the community with pride, as it prepares to respond to emergencies and support local needs.
