BGE Restores Power to Over 110,000 Customers After Severe Storms

Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) has successfully restored electricity to over 110,000 customers affected by a series of intense storms that began on Independence Day. The storms brought heavy rainfall, strong winds, and lightning across various regions of Maryland.

In response to the outages, BGE mobilized over 1,100 crews and emergency response teams, completing more than 1,300 restoration tasks. Among the repairs, crews replaced over 70 damaged utility poles, with 24 of those located near the Cromwell Light Rail station in Baltimore and Annapolis Boulevard. Additionally, more than 50 transformers and around 350 broken crossarms were replaced during the restoration efforts.

Approximately 5,000 feet of wire, which is nearly equivalent to the length of 14 football fields, was utilized in the repairs. During the restoration period, BGE's Customer Care representatives received over 125,000 calls from customers seeking assistance between the evening of July 4 and the morning of July 9.

Dawn White, BGE's vice president of Electric Distribution, expressed her gratitude for the hard work of the teams, stating, "We know how difficult it is for our customers to be without power. The entire team worked tirelessly in extreme conditions with one shared purpose: safely restoring service to every customer. We are incredibly proud and deeply grateful for their work, which reflects the commitment to the people and neighborhoods we are privileged to serve every day."
