BGE Works to Restore Power to 40,000 Customers Following July 4th Storms

Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) crews are actively engaged in restoring power to more than 40,000 customers affected by severe thunderstorms that swept through central Maryland on the evening of July 4th.

The storms initially disrupted service to over 80,000 customers, prompting BGE to mobilize its teams to address the outages immediately. Some areas are facing delays in restoration due to the need for replacing damaged utility poles.

As of 10:21 a.m. on July 5th, BGE reported 1,459 active outages impacting a total of 49,138 customers. The utility company estimates that approximately 80% of those without power will have their service restored by 6 p.m. on Monday, with most customers expected to regain power by 11 p.m. on Tuesday.

Additionally, light rail service between Patapsco and Cromwell, as well as to BWI Airport, remains suspended due to the ongoing power issues stemming from Saturday night's storms. The Maryland Department of Transportation's Maryland Transit Administration has implemented a bus bridge to assist affected passengers.

Customers are encouraged to report any fallen electrical lines or outages by calling BGE at 877-778-2222.
