Community Meeting Scheduled for Liberty Reservoir Bridge Construction Plans

The Maryland Highway Administration is preparing for significant construction work on the Liberty Reservoir bridges along MD-26 (Liberty Road), which serves as a key access point to Carroll County. The bridges, built in 1954, last underwent deck replacements in 1982. Although recent inspections have confirmed their current safety, state officials emphasize the need for repairs due to increasing traffic and development in the area.

While actual construction is not slated to commence until 2028, the design phase is already in progress. To inform the community about the project and discuss traffic management strategies, a public meeting is scheduled for June 17 at 6 PM at Liberty High School in Eldersburg.

This meeting will provide an opportunity for local residents, businesses, and commuters to gain insights into the project and explore potential traffic maintenance options. The Maryland Highway Administration is considering several traffic management strategies during construction, which may include:

  • Single-lane closures with temporary traffic signals to alternate traffic flow in both directions.
  • Reversible single lanes to accommodate peak traffic times, such as eastbound traffic during weekday mornings.
  • Complete road closures with designated detours during the construction period.

For further inquiries regarding the public meeting or the project, community members can reach out to Project Manager Christopher Arendt at [email protected] or District 7 Community Relations Manager Elizabeth Harris at [email protected].
