BALTIMORE — Families of the victims from the 2023 Brooklyn Day mass shooting have initiated legal action against the Housing Authority of Baltimore City.
The tragic incident resulted in the deaths of 18-year-old Aaliyah Gonzalez and 20-year-old Kylis Fagbemi, along with injuries to 28 other individuals.
A month after the shooting, a multi-agency after-action report was released by the city, highlighting several oversights that may have contributed to the escalation of the event. The report also indicated shortcomings in the police department's preparedness.
In response to the report, the Housing Authority claimed it had no prior knowledge of the Brooklyn Day festivities. However, Cary J. Hansel, an attorney representing the victims' families from Hansel Law, disputes this assertion.
