Authorities are investigating a series of medical incidents at the Capital Guardian Youth Challenge Academy in Laurel, which are now suspected to be food-related rather than stemming from carbon monoxide exposure.
On Sunday afternoon, Anne Arundel County Fire Department received a call reporting a medical emergency at approximately 2:21 p.m. When emergency personnel arrived, they assessed an individual who exhibited symptoms similar to those of two other individuals at the academy. This marked the third report of such symptoms within a 90-minute timeframe.
As the situation developed, an additional 15 people reported experiencing similar symptoms, bringing the total number of individuals evaluated to 19. The Fore Meade Fire Department and the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services joined the Anne Arundel County Fire Department in responding to the incident.
During the investigation, no carbon monoxide readings were detected, leading officials to suspect that the source of the illnesses may be related to food. However, an official cause has yet to be confirmed, and the investigation remains active.
