GLEN BURNIE, Md. — A 64-year-old man from Glen Burnie has been arrested and charged with arson and attempted murder after a house fire on Aster Drive last Tuesday night.
Carmelo Latorre was taken into custody on Saturday after his girlfriend provided authorities with a video recording of an altercation that occurred during the night of the fire.
In the video, Latorre allegedly threatens, "I'm going to burn this house right to the f***ing ground," as he confronts his girlfriend, whose identity has been withheld from court documents. The girlfriend reported that Latorre returned home intoxicated on July 21, leading to a violent episode where he broke items in the home, hurled dog waste at her, and made a shocking threat to force her to consume the ashes of her deceased son.
Charging documents reveal that Latorre made several threats against his girlfriend's life during the incident. It is alleged that he placed flammable materials on the kitchen stove before leaving the residence, despite his girlfriend having limited mobility.
In addition to charges of attempted murder and arson, Latorre faces additional counts of malicious burning, making an arson threat, assault, and reckless endangerment. He is currently being held without bond.
