ICE Detains Man at Baltimore School, Sparking Outrage

BALTIMORE, MD — A video that emerged on Thursday appears to depict a man being apprehended by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers at Commodore John Rodgers Elementary/Middle School in Baltimore. The incident has drawn significant attention and condemnation from local lawmakers and community members.

Sherry Christian, the media and public relations manager for Baltimore City Public Schools, provided a statement regarding the situation, although specific details about the school’s involvement were not disclosed.

In response to the incident, FOX45 News has sought comments from the Department of Homeland Security, ICE, and the Baltimore Police Department to clarify the circumstances surrounding the detention.

ICE has reiterated its mission, emphasizing the importance of public safety and national security while stating that it does not specifically target educational institutions. Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis remarked, "ICE does not target schools, but we will not allow criminals to hide in our nation's schools and put the safety of children at risk." This statement follows the detention of Jesus Acevedo-Sanchez, who had previously resisted arrest and evaded law enforcement.

Senate President Bill Ferguson expressed his concerns on social media, highlighting that family safety is paramount. He stated, "nothing else matters if families don't feel safe." This sentiment has resonated with many parents in the community.

ICE officials coordinated with school administrators and the Governor’s Office during the operation to ensure the situation was handled safely and with minimal disruption to students and staff.

Following the incident, children from the school were placed in the care of an aunt, and parents were allowed to contact family members. Acevedo now faces federal charges, including resisting and impeding federal officers, while another individual involved in the incident has been charged with assaulting an officer.
