Matt Post Set to Represent District 14, Honors Legacy of Del. Pam Queen

Matt Post, a 26-year-old Democrat, is preparing to take his seat in the Maryland General Assembly as the incoming representative for Montgomery County's District 14. He will succeed retiring Delegate Pam Queen, who has served since 2016.

Post, who secured the Democratic nomination by defeating Alicia Contreras-Donello by over 6,000 votes, is poised to be one of the youngest members in the Assembly, depending on the outcomes of other races. He expressed his commitment to addressing the needs of his generation, particularly issues like affordable housing, while also honoring the work of his predecessor.

“Having called this district home my entire life, I witnessed firsthand the positive impact of Del. Queen’s initiatives for young people and families,” Post remarked. He noted that he personally benefited from the funding for community programs and recreational centers that Queen championed.

Post's priorities in office will include advocating for education, reducing utility costs, and opposing policies from the Trump administration that he believes negatively affect Maryland residents. He previously served as the student member of the Montgomery County Board of Education during the 2017-2018 school year, an experience that has significantly shaped his political outlook.

“I want to ensure that future generations do not face the challenges of underfunded schools or the threat of gun violence in their communities,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of safe and adequately funded educational environments.

As he prepares to take office, Post looks forward to continuing the legacy of collaboration and community service established by Queen. She was recently honored by the County Council, which recognized her ability to unite people for a common purpose.

With no Republican challenger in the race, Post's election marks a significant moment for District 14, as he aims to bring a fresh perspective while building upon the foundation laid by his predecessor.
