On Saturday, a Metrorail train derailed near College Park, prompting an emergency response and the evacuation of eleven passengers. The incident occurred shortly before noon on Calvert Road, as reported by the Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department.

Officials indicated that the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is investigating a potential heat-related issue with the tracks that may have contributed to the derailment. Following the incident, three individuals were evaluated at the scene, and one man was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Another person declined to be transported for further medical assistance.

As a result of the derailment, Metrorail services experienced delays in both directions throughout the day. WMATA implemented speed restrictions and conducted heat-related inspections on the tracks.
