Pikesville Bus Collision Leaves 28 Injured

A bus accident in Pikesville, a suburb of Baltimore, has resulted in injuries to at least 28 individuals, prompting the Baltimore County Fire Department to classify the incident as a mass casualty event.

The crash occurred on the evening of July 8, involving a Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) bus that collided with multiple vehicles before ultimately crashing into a building located at 500 West Franklin Street.

According to Jerimiah Moerke, a spokesperson for the MTA, the bus first struck a Lexus and then a Nissan, leading to the serious incident. One individual involved in the crash is reported to be in critical condition.

Kevin Cartwright, communications director for the Baltimore City Fire Department, noted that the response was escalated due to the high number of patients requiring medical attention. Emergency responders successfully extracted the bus driver from the vehicle, which had become lodged against the building.

All injured parties were transported to local hospitals for treatment. The Baltimore City Fire Department's special rescue operations team conducted an assessment of the four-story apartment building affected by the crash. Fortunately, they found that the building's support beams were intact, although the first floor has been temporarily condemned.

Authorities are advising motorists to avoid the area as emergency personnel continue their operations. An investigation into the cause of the crash is currently underway, with MTA Police, Baltimore City Fire Department, and building inspectors present at the scene.
