Police Fatally Shoot Dog After Attack on Women in West Baltimore

BALTIMORE — An officer from the Baltimore Police Department shot and killed a dog on Friday evening after it attacked two women and their pet in West Baltimore.

The incident took place around 7:27 p.m. in the 1200 block of West Franklin Street. According to police reports, the officer arrived at the scene to find two loose dogs pursuing the women and their dog.

While one of the dogs managed to escape, the other remained aggressive and continued its attack on the women and their pet. The officer first attempted to subdue the aggressive dog using a taser, but the effort was unsuccessful.

As the situation escalated and the dog continued its assault, the officer was compelled to use their firearm, resulting in the death of the animal.

Following the incident, Animal Control was notified to retrieve the deceased dog. The dog that was attacked received medical attention, although details regarding the severity of its injuries have not been released.

The Baltimore Police Department's Special Investigations Response Team is currently conducting an investigation into the incident. Meanwhile, Animal Control is actively searching for the dog that fled the scene.
