Police Officer Shoots Dog After Attack on Women in West Baltimore

BALTIMORE — A police officer in Baltimore was involved in a shooting incident on Friday evening when a dog attacked two women and their pet in West Baltimore.

The occurrence took place around 7:27 p.m. in the 1200 block of West Franklin Street. According to the police, the officer arrived at the scene to find two loose dogs pursuing the women and their dog.

While one of the dogs managed to escape, the other continued to attack. The officer attempted to subdue the aggressive dog using a taser, but the effort did not succeed.

As the situation escalated and the dog persisted in its attack, the officer resorted to discharging their firearm, resulting in the death of the animal.

Following the incident, Animal Control was notified to retrieve the remains of the deceased dog. The dog that was attacked received medical attention, although details regarding the severity of its injuries have not been released.

The Baltimore Police Department's Special Investigations Response Team is currently conducting an investigation into the incident. Meanwhile, Animal Control is actively searching for the dog that fled the scene.
