BALTIMORE — A police shooting in Northwest Baltimore early this morning resulted in the death of an alleged carjacking suspect.
The incident took place around 1:25 a.m. in the 3300 block of Clifton Avenue, according to Baltimore City Police Commissioner Richard Worley.
Officers from the Foxtrot air support unit had been tracking a vehicle connected to an armed carjacking reported in Baltimore County. Utilizing a license plate reader, they identified the vehicle and monitored its movements from a distance.
Approximately 15 minutes later, the vehicle stopped on Clifton Avenue. As officers approached, the driver attempted to exit the car but quickly returned inside and locked the doors.
While one officer was preparing to break a window to gain access, another officer observed what appeared to be a firearm inside the vehicle. Following this discovery, officers shouted warnings about the weapon, and moments later, gunfire erupted.
The suspect was struck multiple times and, despite immediate medical assistance provided by the officers, was pronounced dead at the scene. A replica BB gun was later recovered from the vehicle.
Commissioner Worley confirmed that the suspect was an adult male, though his identity has not yet been released. All officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, and fortunately, no officers sustained injuries during the incident.
