New court documents reveal that a 16-year-old boy from Baltimore, now charged with the murders of 15-year-old Giovanna Myrie and her 9-year-old brother, Steve Allen, allegedly threatened her days before the tragic incident.
According to the Baltimore County Police Department, the suspect had been in contact with Myrie via social media for several weeks leading up to the shooting. A friend of Myrie reported that the suspect threatened her life if she were unfaithful, stating he would “have to kill” her if she “messed around with other guys.”
On July 4, during a FaceTime call, the friend observed the suspect brandishing a handgun while in bed with Myrie at her residence.
Just two days before the shooting, Myrie texted her friend expressing fear, stating, “he said if I cheat he finna put the gun inside me. Help me.”
Investigators utilized cellphone records, city surveillance footage, and Maryland Transit Administration video to confirm the suspect's presence at Myrie's home on the evening of July 7. He reportedly arrived around 4:19 p.m. and departed approximately an hour later.
Upon returning home from work at around 7:20 p.m., the children's mother discovered their bodies and immediately contacted authorities.
Baltimore County Police Chief Robert McCullough indicated that 9-year-old Steve might have been a witness to the events but could not confirm his involvement. The source of the firearm used in the shooting remains unclear.
The suspect was apprehended on Wednesday morning and is currently being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center, facing charges of first-degree murder as an adult. His arrest occurred shortly after the funeral Mass for the two siblings at St. Casimir Church in Canton.
