Thunderstorm Halts Light Rail Operations in Baltimore Area

A severe thunderstorm that swept through the Baltimore area on Saturday has caused significant disruptions to Light Rail service. Officials from the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) announced that all Light Rail operations south of Patapsco have been suspended.

The suspension is a result of a power outage caused by downed power lines and fallen trees, impacting service in the region. Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) has not yet provided an estimated time for the restoration of power.

In response to the situation, the MTA has implemented shuttle services for several stations affected by the outage. The following stations will have shuttle service available:

  • Glen Burnie/Cromwell
  • Ferndale
  • BWI Airport
  • BWI Business District
  • Linthicum
  • North Linthicum
  • Nursery Road
  • Baltimore Highlands

Riders traveling to Baltimore from Glen Burnie or BWI Airport should anticipate longer wait times as the service disruptions continue.
