U.S. Launches Strikes Against Iran Following Attacks on Commercial Shipping

U.S. Central Command announced on Tuesday that it has commenced military strikes against Iran. This action is a direct response to Iran's alleged attacks on commercial shipping in the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

The strikes were triggered after reports emerged that Iranian forces fired upon three commercial vessels in Oman's territorial waters. A U.S. official labeled these actions as a "gross violation" of an existing memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Iran.

According to Central Command, Iran's recent aggression is considered unwarranted and dangerous, constituting a clear breach of the ceasefire agreement. The Qatari-flagged vessel al-Rakiyat was reportedly struck while navigating near the vital waterway, as confirmed by Qatar’s Foreign Ministry.

In light of these events, a U.S. official emphasized the performance-based nature of the MOU, stating that Iran would only gain benefits through good behavior. The official condemned Iran's recent actions as wholly unacceptable and indicated that they would face consequences. Negotiators continue to work towards a final agreement with Iran.

This escalation in military action occurred just hours before President Donald Trump was set to leave for a NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey.
