Baltimore's Recreation and Parks department has announced extended hours for city pools as a response to the ongoing heatwave affecting the region. The announcement comes after a heat advisory was issued, warning residents of dangerously high temperatures.
The advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., with heat index values potentially reaching up to 107 degrees. To address the increased heat, all park and neighborhood pools will operate on a Code Red schedule starting Wednesday, July 15, through Thursday, July 16.
Extended Pool Hours
The new hours for pool access are as follows:
- 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
- 2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
- 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
- 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Entry to the pools remains free, but residents are required to have a CivicRec account to gain access. No specific time slots need to be reserved, but visitors should ensure their accounts are ready prior to arrival.
This decision follows the declaration of a Code Red Extreme Heat Alert by the city’s health commissioner, which is issued during periods of severe heat that pose a significant risk to the health and safety of residents. The Maryland Department of Health has reported two heat-related fatalities in 2026, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
