Community Stunned After Gwynn Oak Sibling Homicides, Urges Swift Justice

GWYNN OAK, Md. — A week has passed since the tragic shooting deaths of two siblings in Gwynn Oak, and local residents are expressing their hope that law enforcement will soon make an arrest.

On the night of the incident, parents returned home to discover 15-year-old Giovanna Myrie and her 9-year-old brother Steve Allen shot dead in their residence on Talles Road. The Baltimore County Police Department has not released any information regarding potential suspects in the case.

A police spokesperson indicated that detectives are actively investigating and will provide updates once significant developments occur.

Morris Wright, a long-time resident of the area, shared his disbelief over the incident, noting that the family had only recently moved into the neighborhood. “It was kind of hard to believe,” he remarked, adding that such violence is unprecedented in his experience living there.

Wright expressed hope that answers will come soon, acknowledging the complexities of investigations. “I know it takes time… but I just hope that they find out who did it,” he said.

The shooting of the siblings adds to a concerning trend of violence in western Baltimore County, which has seen multiple incidents in recent weeks, including an accidental shooting involving a 7-year-old girl and the homicide of a 26-year-old man in Woodlawn.

Another anonymous neighbor reflected on the tragedy, saying, “Tragic, of course, it’s kids. But also just really confused on how it happened.” The lack of details has left many in the community feeling vulnerable and eager for information to ensure their safety.
